ABOUT THE POSITION:
This is a backfill position which aims to contribute to the Media and Communications team in maintaining a high-profile and strong reputation for Museums Victoria’s museums and activities across a broad range of media, stakeholders and in the wider community. Museums Victoria has a new strategic plan, and this role will be responsible for the development and implementation of public relations programs and publicity strategies which enhance the reputation and positive awareness of Museums Victoria’s activities – including exhibitions, programs, collections, research and expertise – among target audiences.
Notable skills and experiences:
- Proven experience and extensive knowledge of the arts, community and news media landscapes both nationally and locally.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills with particular emphasis on creative writing and communicating with the media.
- Demonstrated ability to work with agility as part of a dynamic team, as well as working autonomously and with initiative.
- An interest or experience in science or science communications favoured but not essential
- An understanding of the role of museums in contemporary society and a commitment to Museums Victoria’s purpose and values.
- Ability to generate positive media coverage including crafting strategic media angles and newsworthy stories, and an ability to manage culturally sensitive material in a diplomatic and sensitive manner.
The successful applicant will have relevant tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, public relations, arts, or possess equivalent experience in one or more of these fields.
