Australia’s largest public museum organisation is seeking a Media & Communications Officer to create and maintain a high level of awareness of Museums Victoria’s activities across a broad range of media and other platforms, with key stakeholder groups and in the wider community.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The primary responsibility of the Media and Communications Officer will be the development and implementation of public relations programs and activities that enhance the reputation and positive awareness of Museums Victoria among target audiences. This role operates within a networked organisation and the successful applicant will be expected to contribute across all of Museums Victoria’s museums and projects as required.
Notable skills and experience:
- Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining strong media networks, with extensive understanding of the broader media, marketing and events landscape
- Superior written and verbal communication skills with particular emphasis on communicating with the media and a variety of audiences
- Proven ability to generate positive media coverage including developing and crafting appropriate media angles and stories
- An ability to work under pressure and coordinate tasks working to many competing deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to work with agility as part of a dynamic collaborative team, as well as autonomously with initiative
- An understanding of the role of museums in contemporary society and a commitment to Museums Victoria’s purpose and values.
The successful applicant will have relevant tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, or public relations, or possess equivalent experience in one or more of these fields.
