ABOUT THE POSITION:
The primary responsibility of the Media and Communications Coordinator is for the development and execution of public relations programs and media strategies which enhance the reputation and awareness of Museums Victoria among target audiences. This role operates within a networked organisation and the successful applicant expected to contribute across all of Museums Victoria’s museums and projects.
Key duties and experiences:
- Plan and execute publicity and media campaigns to maximise coverage for Museums Victoria’s exhibitions, collections, programs, research and special events.
- Develop and maintain relationships and networks with a focus on domestic and international media, and to develop opportunities for audiences to hear about Museums Victoria’s activities and values.
- Assist in strategic public relations planning for the Museums Victoria brand, its experts as well as and its individual museum. Assist in building the profile of Museums Victoria and its venues through effective stakeholder management and business planning.
- Liaise effectively with relevant media and other key internal and external stakeholders to ensure positive exposure.
- Co-ordinate media and VIP functions for Museum events, often including speech writing, briefing notes, guest list management and talent and stakeholder ushering.
- Supervise media and ensure relevant staff are briefed and media representatives comply with filming/photographic guidelines.
- To act as administration support to the Media and Communications department, including media list maintenance, press release distribution, compiling media coverage reports and coordinating guest lists and RSVP lists.
- Assist in the creation of assets and content such as writing media releases and acquiring promotion photos.
The successful applicant will have:
- Proven experience and extensive knowledge of the arts, community and news media landscapes both nationally and locally, and, across traditional and digital media realms, with a thorough understanding of how the media works.
- Ability to generate positive media coverage including crafting strategic media angles and newsworthy stories, and an ability to manage culturally sensitive material in a diplomatic and sensitive manner.
