The job opportunity

The Museum has an exciting opportunity for a professional to join the Media Services team as a Media Services Technician to deliver quality support and technical services to Museum staff and customers.  The Media Services Technician works in a small team, providing a high level of customer service, installing, de-installing, maintaining and operating relevant audio and visual equipment.

The Media Services Technician responds to unforeseen equipment breakdown, operation and maintenance issues, and is responsible for identifying and resolving problems.  Working with other team members, this role will undertake less complex system integration and programming tasks and manage small projects.  The role will support the Senior Media Services Technician with technical documentation and monitoring of maintenance and bookings schedules.

Note: This is a rostered position over a 28-day period. It includes weekends, public holidays and occasional early mornings and evenings.


What will the successful candidate bring to the role?

The successful candidate will have experience in technical services and the setup and operation of audiovisual and event technology.  They will have an interest in evolving technologies and be capable of undertaking research in new developments in the field.  An ability to be flexible, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines is essential.

The successful candidate will have good communication skills and be able to work effectively with internal and external clients.  A strong background in customer service is required.  They will also have demonstrated capability to identify and resolve technical problems, enjoy working in a public environment and have an understanding in the application of work health and safety.

The role involves hands-on work to install and de-install exhibitions and events at the Museum, including the use of various tools and equipment and will require the successful candidate to be physically fit to undertake the range of manual handling activities.

The incumbent of this position may be required to work on a rostered basis, including weekends and after hours.

Selection criteria

Applicants must respond to each of the following selection criteria and include contact details for two referees in their application.

  1. Demonstrated technical understanding of, and ability to operate a range of audio and visual media equipment.
  2. Demonstrated ability to select and configure multimedia devices to meet client requirements.
  3. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  4. Sound communication skills, including the ability to work with a range of internal and external clients.
  5. Demonstrated customer service experience.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
  7. Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve technical problems.
