Position Description
The South Australian Museum is a leading research institution, one of the most visited museums in Australia, and holds collections of national and international significance. It is a leader in remote and regional community engagement, and in Australian Aboriginal heritage and scientific research. The purpose of the Museum is to inspire in all people a wonder and curiosity about life on Earth.
The Membership Coordinator delivers the Museum’s membership activities through the South Australian Museum Foundation Incorporated. They will be responsible for the recruitment and retention of members, process membership applications, mail renewal notices to expiring members, organize membership cultivation events, and maintain the membership database. They will distribute newsletters and other publications in order to keep members up-to-date on program benefits. They will also provide reporting and collaborate with marketing staff to encourage awareness of the program and to increase membership numbers.
Key Responsibilities
- Annual marketing plan for member acquisition and renewal, including but not limited to: membership drives, incentives, on-site and on-line solicitation, and targeted solicitations
- Regularized membership activities including direct mail, benefits, acknowledgements, online recruitment and an annual calendar of member events
- Timely and responsive point of contact for all members
- Administration of membership donations, database maintenance and relevant reporting
- Joint departmental strategies to increase sales, upgrades, and matching gifts and to enhance on-site member service
- Accurate communication of the membership program through the website, publications, and front of house
- Special events and activities focused around active members and prospective members and donors at all levels.
Knowledge/Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
- Persuasive & creative writing skills
- Efficient time management, organisational and planning skills and the ability to be flexible
- Working knowledge of database programs (Raisers’ Edge experience preferred)
- Creativity in developing marketing opportunities within a limited budget
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in membership, fund development, or direct marketing.
