Manager, Preservation Programs and Large Technology Conservation

The Manager, Preservation Programs and Large Technology Conservation works in the Collection Services team and is responsible for leading a large team of specialists and the delivery of a range of conservation outcomes. Preservation Programs at the Memorial include Preventive Conservation, Hazards Management and Materials Analysis. Large Technology Conservation programs include display preparation projects, collection maintenance, strategic planning, team scheduling, workshop management and reporting. This role is required to manage these programs with a strategic, flexible and forward looking approach. Each program requires dynamic stakeholder management and planning to achieve high quality outcomes for the ongoing management of the National Collection.

Core Responsibilities

Management of Preservation Programs including:

Review and maintenance of the following operational plan:

  • National Collection Hazard Management Plan
  • Environmental Plan
  • Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Integrated Pest Management Plan

Also:

  • Formulation and implementation of strategic plans for Preventive Conservation, Hazard Management, and Materials Analysis
  • Leading liaison and stakeholder engagement regarding Preservation Programs both across the Memorial and externally
  • Executive management of preventive conservation initiatives including gallery maintenance, rehousing, collection cleaning, pest management, outdoor sculpture maintenance and new acquisition processing
  • Management of major hazard treatment and mitigation projects and also ongoing hazard identification, documentation and coordination of incident responses
  • Managing and prioritising materials analysis requests as well as management of equipment and training requirements
  • Management of preservation related training programs delivered by the Collection Services team including the Preventive Conservation and Hazards Induction and Annual Refresher, radiation safety and object handling

Management of the Large Technology Conservation Program including:

  • Management of the Large Technology Object (LTO) forward plan for the preservation and maintenance of the collection
  • Executive management and oversight of conservation projects related to LTOs
  • Oversight of the LTO workshop operations, safety and maintenance
  • Liaison with Collection Services and Exhibition project managers regarding LTO projects, priorities and scheduling
  • Leading stakeholder engagement regarding LTO projects

Team leadership:

  • Day to day management of a diverse and multi-skilled team
  • Professional development, mentoring and coaching of the team
  • Oversight of contracts, allocation of resources and priorities
  • Being a proactive member of the Collection Services management team and a positive leader across the broader section
