Sovereign Hill is Australia’s foremost outdoor museum, and enjoys international recognition as such. We are a not-for-profit community-based museum organisation which includes Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, the Gold Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, Blood on the Southern Cross and Narmbool.
The Mine Operations Department is responsible for providing visitors an accurate representation of the gold mining era of the Ballarat Gold rush region.
Delivery of historic information is undertaken in the form of working and static displays comprised within five variations of underground mine tour delivery, fully guided, self-guided, including audio visual and multi-language displays.
The mine environment includes ticket sales, logging and office building on the surface and has 700 meters of underground tunnels.
To entertain, inform and engage visitors through the delivery and operation of Thematic tours in our underground mine environment, opportunities are available for casual Mine Guides to bring to life the interpretation of the famous Deep Lead and Quartz Mining from the local and surrounding areas. Reporting to the Mine Guide Team Leader the role is responsible for delivering these themes with relevance and context to our visitors while maintaining OHS workplace standards.
The following knowledge and skills are required:
- Presentation/Public speaking/interpreting/guiding experience is preferred but not essential
- Previous experience within a tourism or customer service environment is highly regarded
- Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills
- Some Knowledge and understanding of mining history and processes would be advantageous
- Due to mining regulations, applicants must be over 18 years of age
- Ability and willingness to work across flexible rosters including weekends, public holidays and school holidays
Qualifications
- A Certificate in Tourism and/or Guiding will be highly regarded
- Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate or prepared to obtain
