Uncover the development and construction of Auckland’s Harbour Bridge, drawing on the Walsh Memorial Library’s rich collection.

Bridging the Waitematā hero

Te tūhononga o Waitematā Bridging the Waitematā is an internally developed exhibition that draws on the Walsh Memorial Library’s collection, and offers visitors the opportunity to reflect on the Auckland Harbour Bridge which has been a core transport link since 1959.

It is the third in a series of library exhibitions that focuses on a specific aspect of our collection and delves into more of MOTAT’s rich stories.

The exhibition focuses on the engineering and design that went into constructing the Harbour Bridge. From before the bridge, preparing the site, to construction and final operation, Te tūhononga o Waitematā Bridging the Waitematā details the process of this iconic Auckland landmark through a range of traditional and digital media.

MOTAT’s Walsh Memorial Library houses an extensive collection of historical records, archives, and materials reflecting Auckland’s social history and New Zealand’s unique history of transport and technology.
