MuseumNext Conference

Announcing MuseumNext Melbourne (15 – 17 February 2017)

MuseumNext is a global conference series on the future of museums, since 2009 it has acted as a platform for showcasing best practice today to shine a light on the museum of tomorrow.

MuseumNext Melbourne will bring the conference to Australia for the first time, with museums and galleries from around the world coming together to highlight best practice, discuss the latest trends and think about what’s next for museums.

The conference, which will take place in February 2017 is being produced in partnership with the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, which will host the three-day event in their impressive state-of the art museum on Federation Square.

Jim Richardson, founder of MuseumNext said ‘As a place that not only presents contemporary and historical forms of screen culture, but also works to act as a catalyst for entirely new types of creativity, ACMI is the perfect partner for MuseumNext’.

‘We have seen fantastic examples of best practice highlighted at our events by museums from Australia and bringing the conference to Melbourne creates new opportunities to showcase this and for museums across the wider Asia-Pacific region to participate’.

‘Melbourne and the Victorian Government’s visionary support for the arts have made the city an international capital of culture, and MuseumNext delegates will have the opportunity to see one of Australia’s most celebrated cultural events, White Night which takes place the day after the conference finishes.’

Katrina Sedgwick, Director and CEO of ACMI said ‘ACMI is delighted to host MuseumNext Melbourne. At a time of such rapid change in audience expectation, and so many opportunities for museums to reimagine how we tell our stories and engage our visitors, MuseumNext offers a wonderful catalyst to focus our thinking and challenge our preconceptions with our peers from around the region and the world.’

MuseumNext Melbourne will take place 15 – 17 February 2017 at ACMI. The conference will include presentations, discussions and workshops with contributions from the biggest names in the museum world.

A call for papers will be launched in July to allow anyone interested in presenting at the conference the opportunity to propose a presentation.
