Nagoya Protocol on Genetic Resources

Australia is now pursuing the implementation and ratification of the Nagoya Protocol.  The Protocol deals with access to genetic resources and the sharing of benefits which arise from their utilization.

The Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population, and Communities has invited comments on the best way to implement the Protocol in Australia.  The deadline for comments will be 15 August 2012.

CAMD supports the Nagoya Protocol but is keen to see that it does not impede the important work of exchanging and loaning biodiversity collections.
