National Programs Manager (Shell Questacon Science Circus)

Questacon is Australia’s national centre for science and technology with a mission to inspire and engage all Australians in science, technology and innovation. For over 30 years the Shell Questacon Science Circus has been a flagship national touring program visiting regional and remote communities. To this day the founding partners of Questacon, the Australian National University and Shell continue to deliver the programme.
If you have the skills, experience and drive to lead the teams responsible for this remarkable programme then this is an opportunity to assist us in preparing the Science Circus for the next 30 years.
This is a 12 month non-ongoing role with the option for another 12 months depending on business requirements.
What we’re looking for
The successful candidate will have:
- a high level of planning and logistic skills and ability to manage complex operations towards the delivery of a national touring science and learning program that tours into schools and communities
- demonstrated understanding of key stakeholder relationships across government, education and business noting that Shell and the Australian National University are partners in the delivery of this program and the ability to actively contribute to the future development of partnerships for the program
- demonstrated experience in ensuring high quality science content for communication to the public
- significant experience in leading and managing a large blended team that includes external employees, full time, part time and non-ongoing staff that are performing time critical functions on a regular basis and the ability to negotiate with empathy and care is essential
- demonstrated high level communication skills suitable for providing information and written reports at all levels of Questacon, stakeholders and Government
- ability to develop and appropriately manage financial budgets
- actively contribute to strategic direction and purpose as part of the Science and Learning section leadership team.
Key Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in Science, Maths, Education or Science Communication.
- This position requires regular interstate travel (up to 7 days at a time) in order to check in, visit and support touring staff and ensure content is of a suitable high quality.
- This position requires the applicant to pass an Australian Criminal Information Check and hold a valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People card.
The impact you’ll have
Over the next 12 months the Shell Questacon Science Circus has tours planned to Tasmania, South Australia and Far North Queensland. While most of the planning for these tours is underway there will need to be planning for 2018 undertaken.
At the same time there is work around possibly reimagining the Science Circus model beyond 2017 in conjunction with ANU.
