Premier Mike Baird’s two signature projects for western Sydney look set to come together with the preferred new home of the Powerhouse Museum likely to be serviced by the area’s future light rail network.
An old car park on the banks of the Parramatta River has emerged as the front runner in the state government’s search for a new home for the museum when it relocates from its long-standing base in Ultimo.
The site, known as the Old David Jones car park, is now the favoured option largely because it can be integrated with the light rail line that the state government plans to build from Westmead to Strathfield via Parramatta.
