New Home for Scitech

Scitech media release, A new home for Scitech, 25 May 2016

Exploring options for a new location in early 2020s

Scitech is delighted with the Premier’s announcement that a possible new home may be identified in the future planning of the Perth Cultural Centre in the early 2020s.

Scitech CEO, Mr Alan Brian said: “Scitech has been undertaking extensive planning to firstly address the constraints of our current home at City West and secondly to secure a new location for the future.”

Scitech has been in ongoing discussions with the Premier about short term constraints and the need to refresh the City West premises.

“We welcome the opportunity to continue discussions with the State Government and the Department of Culture and Arts to explore location possibilities for 2021 and beyond.”

“In the interim, Scitech is staying at City West and we are focussed on improving the visitor experience by upgrading our facilities and expanding the offering for visitors,” Mr Brien said.

The State Government has allocated $250,000 in the 2016/17 financial year to support Scitech in making these significant improvements to the centre for visitors.

This work will include expanding the floor space at the City West centre to accommodate another gallery for new exhibits and interactive, hand-on STEM content.

Similarly, the centre refresh will cover upgrades to existing exhibits and facilities to optimise the visitor experience at City West.
