Auckland Museum is a much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its extensive collections and the permanent and volunteer staff who tell the Museum’s stories.

The role of the Safety & Security Officer – Night Custodian is a highly responsible position protecting the museums’ artefacts, staff, visitors and building. By ensuring the safety of the museum and providing excellent service for the Museum’s customers.

The Museum currently has two casual Safety and Security Officer – Night Custodian positions available, to operate on a casual, as and when required only basis, across the 24/7 security operation.

To be successful in this role, you will offer;

  • A National Certificate in Security, or an equivalent recognised and relevant qualification is highly desired
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a sole charge person when required, as well as part of a fast paced team
  • Proven knowledge of relevant compliance laws related to the Museum, safety and security and a strong desire to educate oneself in the safety and security profession
  • Demonstrated English language written, verbal, listening and comprehension skills
  • The availability to work night time/evening shifts, often at short notice
  • A demonstrated professional appetite for work ethics, honesty, integrity, and reliability
  • Decision making experience and abilities
  • Professional approach to personal presentation
  • A reasonable level of fitness, consistent with the physical demands of the job
  • Demonstrated computer skills with Microsoft Office experience
  • A high level of commitment to the Museum, it’s possessions, the staff and needs of the public
  • A warm and approachable manner and ability to represent the Museum in a professional way
  • Understanding and respect of the Treaty of Waitangi as its relates to the Museum environment
