Bowral’s Cecil Healy remains Australia’s only war veteran to win gold at an Olympic Games.

In 1912 he swam for Australia at the Stockholm Games, in an event that saw Cecil lead an act of ultimate sportsmanship.

Six years later he was killed in action in France. Today, Cecil Healy’s body lies in a cemetery in Assevillers, just north of Paris.

Reporter Stefan Posthuma spoke to the director of the Australian War Memorial Matt Anderson and Australia’s Olympic deputy Chef de Mission Kaarle McCulloch about Cecil Healy’s story.
