This position has two primary roles, the capture of high quality Public Affairs photographs and video of events and ceremonies held at the AWM. The imagery produced is used for in house publications as well as delivery to external clients. As these ceremonies are held on specific dates the activities of the role requires the flexibility to work designated weekends and outside normal business hours.

The second function is high quality photography of national collection objects, the capturing of preservation or publication quality imagery either as stills (including 3D) or video used across a diversity of channels including exhibitions, publications, public programs, and digital online media to our stakeholders around Australia and internationally.

Core Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Multimedia Production Manager:

  • Perform and produce publication and exhibition level digital imagery including photography, 3D scanning and 360 video of material associated with the Memorial’s collection. Using a variety of professional photography, video and scanning equipment as well as lighting and studio setup. Assist with the maintenance and calibration of equipment such as high grade graphic monitors and capture equipment.
  • Under established Public Affairs protocols represent the Memorial as an official photographer/videographer for public events and VIP visits. Edit and create publication quality photographs and video productions using a variety of software tools including Adobe Creative Suite and BlackMagic Resolve to highlight and promote the activities of the Australian War Memorial.
  • Undertake as directed digital colour management and workflow procedures associated with the Memorial’s digitisation, preservation and access programs.
  • Maintain collection image integrity in accordance with National Collection established guidelines and practices.
  • Maintain and interpret preservation and technical metadata requirements within collection business systems (CMS – MICA and DAMS – MediaBin).
  • Ensure the correct manual handling and movement protocols of a wide range of objects as required, including but not limited to photographic equipment, ladders and items from the collection.
  • Support corporate priorities, participate in team meetings and contribute to maintaining a safe, healthy and productive workspace. Participate in team planning and training processes and suggest continuous improvements to processes and procedures
  • Abide by and further the principles and practices of Work health and Safety as outlined in the WPS Act, taking reasonable care for personal health and safety and ensuring that acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of other persons.

Additional Requirements

  • Professional and proficient use of digital photographic, video camera and edit systems.
  • Advanced digital understanding and skills of production techniques.
  • Advanced colour management knowledge and digital interpretation skills.
