Role purpose
The Museum has an exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant to join the Finance business unit as Assistant Manager, Finance Operations. The role will support and drive the Museum’s financial strategy, management and operations, and deliver comprehensive financial advice and support across the Museum.
The Finance business unit has responsibility for delivery and oversight of end-to-end financial management at the Museum. The incumbent will work closely with the CFO, Financial Controller and Finance Team, and Business Unit managers and staff, to support and improve financial outcomes, practices and business performance. This will be achieved within the context of the Museum’s broader financial and strategic objectives, and the Australian Government’s budget and funding settings.

Key accountabilities
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in financial management and operational roles, including the ability to manage organisation wide financial planning, delivery, reporting and administration activities. This includes, but is not limited to:
- overseeing financial operations including month and year end close, accounts payable and receivable and other administrative functions (e.g. travel, credit cards);
- developing, analysing and reporting detailed and complex financial information, including budgets, forecasts and results, in operational, performance and funding contexts;
- preparing annual financial statements and other statutory reports, interpreting accounting standards and including managing external audits;
- developing, implementing and reviewing policies, processes and systems to improve performance and meet regulatory and compliance obligations;
- building team culture, capacity and capability, while demonstrating an awareness and personal commitment to the APS Values and Code of Conduct.
Selection criteria
- Detailed knowledge of, and demonstrated ability to apply, the Australian Government’s resource and financial management framework, in a Corporate Commonwealth Entity (CCE) environment.
- Extensive experience preparing annual financial statements, including application of Australian Accounting Standards and Australian Government accounting policies and guidance.
- High level communication skills, including the ability to work successfully with a range of internal and external stakeholders, to achieve financial and operational outcomes.
- Proven ability to successfully manage small teams in a corporate and service delivery setting, to deliver day to day and organisation-wide finance functions.
- Demonstrated awareness and personal commitment to the APS Values and Code of Conduct.
