This role is responsible for increasing public access to the work of the Museum through the effective administration of the Museum’s touring exhibition program with the aim of reaching audiences nationally and internationally.
Connecting with remote and regional audiences within Australia is a key focus of the role and a willingness to undertake occasional domestic travel is required.
This is a rewarding position which will involve juggling multiple concurrent exhibitions at various stages of their lifecycle.
The key duties of the position include:
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Manager Touring Programs to implement procedures for the creation and
management of touring exhibitions and related strategy. - Find and place the Museum’s exhibitions at venues, including bookings, contracts and freight logistics. Manage touring exhibitions in Salesforce.
- Carry out market and audience research to inform the Museum’s touring exhibitions strategy
- Administer the Museum’s NCITO and Visions of Australia grant applications for touring exhibitions.
- Capture reporting metrics per internal, National Collecting Institution and Budget Portfolio Statement requirements.
- Project manage exhibitions assigned to the Role including budget, risk, contract and schedule management.
- Report on designated project budgets (Grant, Capital & Operational) for touring and incoming exhibitions.
- Direct internal groups to create relevant supporting exhibition documentation such as installation manuals, crate lists, marketing style guides and maintenance documentation for the Museum’s touring exhibition program.
- To fulfil the key competencies of the classification of this position as defined and described by the Integrated Leadership System (ILS).
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Demonstrated organisation, administrative and computer skills.
- Experience managing contracts, preferably exhibition hire or loan agreements.
- Experience working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams in developing exhibitions.
- Experience in sales, preferably related to placing exhibitions.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal) with an ability to
present and communicate information to a diverse range of stakeholders within the Arts & Culture sector. - A bachelor’s degree in museum studies, cultural heritage or equivalent tertiary qualifications.

Selection for this position will be made on the basis of relative merit which will be assessed against each item of the selection criteria. Applications that do not address the selection criteria will not be considered for short listing by the Selection Committee. As part of the selection process the selection committee may invite candidates to undertake psychometric test, you should advise the selection committee if you have any special needs. Psychometric tests may be used as the initial short-listing test or later in the selection process. Some tests are very short while others may take one or more hours.
