Australia’s largest public museum organisation is seeking a First Peoples focused Cultural Educator at Museums Victoria.

Under the guidance of the Manager, Inclusion & First Peoples Employment, and based within the People & Culture Department, you will deliver the First Peoples Cultural Competency Program and associated initiatives to Museums Victoria staff and external clients.

The First Peoples’ Cultural Competency Program is a customised program designed to help shape how we think about and interact with the history and cultures of the First Peoples of this land, and how we can improve our working relationships and meaningful interactions with one another.

ABOUT MUSEUMS VICTORIA:

Museums Victoria cares for the State scientific and cultural collections, providing visitor access, activities and events at five distinct venues: Melbourne Museum, Immigration Museum, Scienceworks, IMAX Cinema and world heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

We are seeking a person who is excited by the prospect of researching, writing and implementing personalised, diversity-based education programming, informed by their own cultural journey.

In addition to the development and delivery of commercial, community, and staff centred programming, the successful candidate will provide program administration, and media support.

They will write, produce, coordinate, and disseminate program based online education content. Theirs will be a collaborative approach to engaging with People & Culture, First Peoples, and other key internal and external stakeholders to ensure outcomes for the program align with Museums Victoria’s policies, procedures, values, relevant legislation, and regulations.

Some of the key duties include: 

  • Under the guidance of the Manager, Inclusion & First Peoples Employment, deliver the First Peoples Cultural Competency Program and associated initiatives to Museums Victoria staff and external clients.
  • Research, write and implement a personally informed iteration of the First Peoples Cultural Competency Program.
  • Provide program administration, including but not limited to fielding booking inquiries, scheduling program deliveries, writing reports, and organising venues & catering where appropriate.
  • Write, produce, coordinate, and disseminate program based online education content.
  • Take a collaborative approach to engaging with People & Culture, First Peoples, and other key internal and external stakeholders to ensure outcomes for the program align with Museums Victoria’s policies, procedures, values, relevant legislation, and regulations.
