From a People, Culture, and Wellbeing perspective, MOTAT is not what you would expect and that is true of so many things about both this organisation and this opportunity.

At MOTAT we are not just preserving and sharing the history of technology and innovation in Aotearoa, we also have a vision of inspiring the innovators of tomorrow. Join us as the Head of People, Culture and Wellbeing, where you’ll lead the charge in fostering an inclusive work and volunteer environment, embracing a dual-world view in your approach, and empowering our 400 MOTAT Team Members to be successful in their roles.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, who you will be replacing in this role, you’ll be the strategic and operational powerhouse behind our organization’s most valuable asset: our people. You will lead a portfolio of HR, Safety and Wellbeing, DEI (including Kaupapa Māori) and Payroll; working collaboratively as part of MOTAT’s Leadership Team.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Have at least five years of experience as a HR leader, ideally from the NFP or GLAM sectors;
  • Bring an understanding of both safety and wellbeing and te ao Māori me ōna tikanga (or already be on a pathway to building that understanding);
  • Thrive in a busy environment, being able to context-switch to support a team of nine working across a broad portfolio;
  • Have a passion for supporting the development of people and the culture of an organisation;
  • Bring an attention to detail and aptitude for communication, relationship building, and change management; and
  • Lead with integrity in everything you do. You will also be systems savvy with experience using HRIS, HSMS and payroll systems. This role is perfect for a leader looking for a more strategic operational role, leading with a people-first approach.

What’s in it for you

This is an opportunity to lead and support a team that make a difference at MOTAT every day. You will also get the benefit of flexible working hours, Birthday Leave, professional development, Study Leave, additional KiwiSaver contributions, and a MOTAT Mates pass for you and your whānau.
