Artlab Australia leads the preservation of the state’s extensive cultural assets through the provision of strategic advice, expertise and specialised conservation services for art, heritage and cultural collections. The team is responsible for the conservation programs of the Art Gallery of South Australia, South Australian Museum, State Library of South Australia, History Trust of South Australia and Carrick Hill. Artlab also provides conservation services to Riddoch Art Gallery and to a wide range of fee for service clients within Australia and overseas. Preventive conservation services assist collection managers and owners to protect their collections and respond to disasters. Education and advisory services support communities in the preservation of their cultural heritage.

Role Details
The Objects Conservator will prepare collections for relocation to the new purpose-built Cultural Institutions Storage Facility, and assist with preventive conservation and research activities associated with the project. The Objects Conservator will work with the collections of the Art Gallery of South Australia, South Australian Museum, State Library of SA and History Trust of SA.
- The Incumbent will be required to participate in the department’s Performance Management Program.
- The Incumbent may be assigned to another position at this remuneration level or equivalent.
- Some work outside of normal hours will be required.
- This role requires a National Criminal History check.
- Multiple roles available.
- Location mainly at state cultural institution sites as well as at Artlab Australia.
- May involve work with restricted collections where appropriate.
- Intrastate travel and the provision of services onsite at client locations will be required together with some out of hours work.
- Applicants will be required to undergo the appropriate and relevant Employment Screening Assessment(s) required for this role in line with the DPC Employment Screening Policy.
- Drivers licence highly desirable.
Essential Qualifications
- Degree in Conservation of Cultural Material or equivalent essential. Specialisation in objects conservation highly desirable.
