The History Trust of SA is recruiting a casual Skipper & Maintenance Officer to work at the SA Maritime Museum. Utilise your diverse skills in the South Australian cultural and tourism sector.

The Opportunity:
The Skipper & Maintenance Officer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the maritime vessels for the History Trust of SA and implements comprehensive maintenance and conservation schedules of vessels and buildings under guidance and supervision of the Senior Skipper & Maintenance Officer.
Key components of the role:
- Assist with the supervision of volunteers.
- Under direction, undertake program of comprehensive maintenance/conservation schedules for maritime vessels.
- Under direction, provide maintenance and repair works to the museum group of buildings.
- Oversee the operation, cleanliness and maintenance of vessels.
- Undertake maritime tours and cruises.
- Under direction, negotiate and supervise contract work associated with vessels and collection objects.
- Under direction, train and supervise volunteers working on the vessels and in the workshop.
- Contribute to the museum’s WHS programs to ensure safe work practices and compliance with policies and legislation.
- Oversee the maintenance activities and condition of the workspaces, tools and equipment.
- Under direction, assist with the installation and removal of exhibitions and displays.
Special Conditions:
Some out of hours work may be required. Regular weekend work will be required. Engagement in this role is subject to a satisfactory Department of Human Services Working with Children Check. Intrastate and interstate travel may be required and a current driver’s licence is required.
Essential Qualifications:
Coxswain Grade 1 or Grade 2 Near Coastal Certificate.
