About us

The Western Australian Museum is a vibrant centre of inspiration, learning and enjoyment for everyone. It preserves, documents and shares collections relating to the State’s natural and cultural heritage. It collaborates with people across Western Australia to share the stories and voices of diverse communities. It works alongside national and international organisations, contributing to global research, promoting life-long learning, and developing and hosting world-class exhibitions.

About the role

The position is responsible for the co-ordination of the Legacy Collection Project. This involves the organisation and logistics in the registration, curation, and database entry of specimens held in the Natural Sciences Collection at the WA Museum’s Collection and Research Centre in Welshpool. The position has a key role in the recruitment and day-to-day coordination of Volunteers assisting with the project.

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual who enjoys a challenge, and working with a large museum Collection in a team dedicated to preserving and researching WA’s Natural Science collection.

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Work collaboratively with Curators and Collections Managers in the interdisciplinary Science team.
  • Take the lead in digitising multiple collections, making them accessible to a global audience. This includes the development of workflows.
  • Supervise and provide training to small teams of Volunteers and students in the digitisation of specimens.
