About the role

The Research Officer (Fishes) position provides accurate and timely identification of marine fishes for the WA Museum and its partners. This position also provides advice on the taxonomic status and distribution of each species.

About you

We are looking for an experienced researcher who self-motivated and passionate about fishes. You should be able to work independently with supervision, show initiative and be adept at the handling and examination of fresh and preserved fish specimens.

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Identify marine fish specimens to a high level of confidence, using morphological assessments, relevant literature and molecular data.
  • Prepare and curate specimens into the WA Museum collection.
  • Prepare digital images.
