Te Papa is currently seeking a Kaitohutohu Matua-ā-Iwi | Senior Advisor Iwi Relationships, an opportunity where you can contribute to the development of a Māori Relationship and Engagement Strategy across Te Papa and oversee and coordinate the response to and implementation of Te Papa’s Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations, specifically contributions to Te Tiriti o Waitangi settlements and post settlement relationships.

In this role you will be working as part of the Ngā Manu Atarau directorate, whose purpose is to lead and drive the development and strengthening of te reo me ngā tikanga, te ao Māori, and Te Papa’s ability to meet its Tiriti o Waitangi obligations and legislative mandate. The directorate is dedicated to the vision of Te Papa as he whare taonga tumu tiriti, kei reira te whakpūmautanga o te katoa ki te Tiriti o Waitangi ā, ka whakamahia e te Māori te tino rangatiratanga. A dedicated team seeking to make authentic and lasting changes in the way museums and iwi collaborate, interact and share responsibility for caring for taonga. You will join the directorate as part of the Iwi Relationships Team whānau.

As Senior Advisor Iwi Relationships you will create, develop, and implement a Māori Engagement and Relationship Strategy across Te Papa. You will be coordinating and leading Te Papa’s response and participation in the Te Tiriti o Waitangi negotiation, settlement and post settlement space, and will be developing transformative and innovative relationship agreements, frameworks, instruments, tools and action-based work plans and programmes between Te Papa and Māori.

You will be responsible for meaningful reporting to and from iwi partners, Te Papa and stakeholders, monitoring the health of relationships, while developing and maintaining a repository of engagement, interactions and relationships between Te Papa and Māori. You will consider and provide innovative and transformative advice and direction to Te Papa processes, frameworks and documents to ensure they foster partnership and engagement with Māori.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience working with Māori communities, Iwi, Hapū, Whānau, Marae and Māori organisations
  • Strong and meaningful networks with iwi and other Māori organisations
  • An advanced understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, te reo me ngā tikanga Māori
  • Experience with developing relationship or engagement documents, frameworks, instruments or tools, and an interest in Māori data sovereignty, intellectual property protection, and frameworks when Te Papa and Māori partner collaborate.

 

This is full-time permanent role joining our Iwi Relationships Team whānau working in service to and in advocacy for our people, with some scope for flexible work and working from home.

Salary range: $91,773 – $108,980 – Offers will be made to reflect the skills and experience offered by the candidates and those required of these positions including internal relativities with other employees.
