The Senior Construction Officer, Exhibition Workshop will work as part of a project team, taking a lead role in the workshop for the construction of set works for Queensland Museum exhibitions, collection displays and other public program projects.
The Senior Construction Officer, Exhibition Workshop will:
- Oversee workshop activity including planning, coordinating and assigning tasks, as required to the Construction and Installation Officer and Assistant Installation Officer for the building, assembling and moving of set works constructions, including walls, plinths, display cabinets, show cases and furniture.
- Develop work plans and schedules to coordinate tasks for multiple project builds to deliver constructions within time, cost and quality standards, and provide progress updates as required.
- Identify and apply appropriate construction techniques and methods to realise design constructions and apply high quality finishes to meet QM quality standards.
- Interpret design and engineering specifications to identify issues impacting on the design build and advise estimated timeframes, resourcing and budget needs.
- Undertake controlled material testing and create prototypes to provide feedback to designers about the practicalities of different materials used in a design, in collaboration with the Production/Construction Supervisors.
- Comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), regulations, codes and specifications relating to building and WHS including manual handling.
- Be responsible for the general upkeep of the worskshop, setting expectations for appropriate conduct, sound handling and maintenance of workshop equipment, and cleanliness.
- Provide training, guidance and direction to the Construction and Installation Officer and Assistant Installation Officer to build their capability and progress work, and ensure work is timely and completed to a satisfactory standard.
- Liaise with other Exhibition and Creative Services staff, seeking clarification about design specifications, as required to progress construction of set works.
- Assist with the movement and installation of artifacts/o.bjects, both within the Museum galleries and at off site locations, as required.
- Provide trade quality construction and fabrication services to Collections, Conservation and other Museum departments in order to help maintain the quality of public displays and back of house facilities.
- Comply with QM policies, procedures and appropriate legislation.
- Contribute to the safety culture of QM by reporting all incidents and hazards and ensuring work is undertaken in the safest way possible, following all QM WHS policies and/or procedures and guidelines relevant to the job.
