The Australian National Maritime Museum is seeking an experienced and well organised Senior Finance Officer to join the Finance team in this full-time non-ongoing APS level 6 position for 12 months.

About the Role

The Senior Finance Officer plays a key role in management and oversight of Office’s financial and procurement functions.

Communication is an essential quality of this position, and you must demonstrate your ability and willingness to engage with staff across our business areas.

Duties are to be performed under the direction from the Deputy CFO in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct, upholding the APS Values and upholding the Office values of independence, impartiality, integrity, accessibility and professionalism.

You will be responsible for supporting the transformation of the financial management function to best practice in government including financial reporting, procurement, and internal controls, ensuring all legislative and government reporting requirements are met and assist in other areas of the organisation as required.

Key Accountabilities 

Under broad direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions:

  • Contribute to a small operational team to deliver high quality finance, procurement, property, and accounting services for the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) including advice, policies, processes and procedures that support the achievement of the ANMM’s goals.
  • Ensure financial reporting requirements are met, including monthly timeframes and reporting requirements to the Department of Finance are met and respond in a timely fashion to ANAO queries.
  • Provide input to and assist with the preparation of the end of year financial statements.
  • Efficiently and effectively assist with the management of financial and procurement processes of the
  • ANMM, to ensure achievement of value for money, compliance with government policies and legislation and responsiveness to the needs of the museum.
  • Work collaboratively to support the achievement of the business goals and implementation of efficiencies in financial processes.
  • Complete CBMS monthly actuals and Balance Sheet reconciliations in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the management of Internal Budgets.
  • Ability to work without close supervision, being proactive and self-starting, originating actions to achieve agreed outcomes.

 

Selection Criteria 

  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of commonwealth government financial framework including the PGPA Act and procurement guidelines
  • Demonstrated experience managing a small finance team to complete business as usual activities
  • Demonstrated experience in preparation of financial statements including liaising with the ANAO
  • Technical competence in interpreting accounting standards in a government entity
  • Technical competence in commonwealth government procurement guidelines

 

Desirable

  • Membership of a professional accounting body or tertiary qualifications in accounting or finance is desirable.
