About the section
The Strategic Engagement section positions Questacon for success through strategy, performance, people and culture. The section achieves this through effective communication, high quality strategic planning and advice, partnership and philanthropic investment, advocacy, strong and efficient internal processes, executive support and stakeholder engagement. The Partnerships and Communications team provides strategic communications advice to the Questacon Executive and senior management and supports Questacon’s external and internal communications activities.Our ideal candidate
Is someone who thrives in a fast paced, small team with experience in marketing, media and content creation. Relevant experience in the cultural, tourism or the marketing, advertising and PR sector is ideal.
In this role you will need to take initiative, manage competing tasks, have excellent written skills and attention to detail, an open mind, sound judgement and the ability to apply discretion.
It would be a bonus if you loved staying up to date with emerging technologies and trends, especially in digital marketing and communications.
This role requires some out of hours work and flexibility. Social media monitoring takes place on weekdays during business hours.
What you will do
The Senior Marketing and Communications Officer plays a key role in delivering business as usual activities, while also leading campaign work across marketing, social media, internal communications, and brand management.
With a goal to engage audiences, you will:
- Contribute to the internal communications of Questacon by delivering a fortnightly newsletter
- Work with teams across the organisation to deliver results through marketing campaigns that reach target audiences
- Coordinate Questacon’s social media channels which includes: monitoring, developing content, coordinating the social media content calendar and providing oversight and quality control of content with the goal of growing our social media presence
- Work with Questacon’s design team to commission and review marketing and promotional material for campaigns and projects ensuring excellent creative outcomes and timely delivery
- Liaise with the whole of government advertising provider to deliver marketing campaigns, track delivery and measure outcomes
- Work with our colleagues at the Department of Industry, Science and Resources on internal communication and external media activities
- Support media opportunities and be involved in facilitating media requests through, identifying spokespeople, developing talking points and media releases and liaising with the media
- Unearth interesting stories, interpret complex information and communicate it in a way that is accessible and appropriate for a variety of audiences and channels.
- Contribute to reporting by developing media summaries, wrap up reports and data analysis
- Provide sound administration and shared inbox skills to keep the Communications team organised
Eligibility
Relevant formal qualification/s (Bachelor degree minimum), or more than 3 years’ experience within these industries.
The successful applicant of this role is required to hold and maintain a valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) card.
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Notes
This recruitment process is being used to fill an ongoing vacancy at the APS 6 Level. The role is available on a full time basis. You will work within the scope of the Department’s Enterprise Agreement and other policies. Outside of the usual pattern of work, this role may require some after-hours or weekend work, and may involve some interstate travel as required. This role has place-based requirements.
A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
