Role purpose

The Museum has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, organised and enthusiastic professional to join the agency as a Senior Officer in the First Nations Outreach Team. The successful candidate will support a range of aspects of the Museum’s First Nations outreach activities, including those associated with the international tour of the Songlines exhibition, and the Encounters Fellowship Program and broader support role for First Nations engagement.

This includes assisting liaising with multiple internal and external stakeholders in coordinating activities and logistics related to the Encounters Fellowship Program and the Songlines Cultural Ambassadors Program, under supervision of the Manager of the First Nations Outreach team and in consultation with the Exhibitions team.

The key duties of the position include:

Key accountabilities

  • Accountable for developing integrated plans and objectives for short-term and medium-term tasks.
  • Responsible for coordinating competing requests and demands, setting priorities and managing the workflow for immediate work area.
  • Responsible for managing project budgets, contract management and procurement.
  • Responsible for providing professional and policy advice regarding First Nations projects, with provision of technical expertise contributing to business unit outcomes.
  • Accountable for coordinating and maintaining appropriate risk management programs in the First Nations Outreach team.

 

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated high level knowledge and experience of successfully facilitating engagement between museums and First Nations communities.
  • High level project administration experience, including the ability to successfully schedule, monitor and undertake multiple activities and tasks across concurrent projects.
  • Demonstrated capability to deliver quality results and meet deadlines as it relates to program and exhibition delivery.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate and engage with a range of stakeholders, including those from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Extensive experience working with First Nations communities and knowledge holders, particularly as it relates to exhibition engagement and capacity building programs.
