The Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences‘ principal curator Matthew Connell wants to reassure the community the Powerhouse Discovery Centre at Castle Hill is here to stay.
“It’s our collection-storage facility, with some community spaces,” Mr Connell said. “It’s staying.”
He was responding to rumours it would close since the government announced Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum would be moved to Parramatta.
Mr Connell said the Powerhouse Discovery Centre would officially be reopened in January, and he looked forward to “further engagement” with western Sydney …
The Powerhouse Discovery Centre in Castle Hill closed last August for a $33.6 million upgrade funded over four years by the NSW government.
The upgrade to the site will include refurbishment of the existing building, upgrade of the open access display store, improved public access facilities and two new conservation workrooms — one for the Australian Museum and one shared between Sydney Living Museums and MAAS.
