Duties
The Preventive Conservation Officer (PCO) provides specialist skills and management of preventive conservation activities across the Memorial: working in collaboration with staff to advise on best practice standards for the preservation of the collection; delivery of staff training; development and implementation of on-going programs. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as a team member.
Responsibilities:
- Under limited direction, manage preventive conservation programs, resources, budget, staffing and the development and implementation of policies and procedures for: Gallery and Storage Maintenance; Integrated Pest Management; Environmental Monitoring; Disaster Planning
- Set and achieve priorities, monitor work flows, ensure achievement of work area goals or objectives through effective management of physical, financial, information technology and staffing resources.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders in relation to developing and maintaining preventive conservation programs.
- Deliver preventive conservation training and skills development to staff.
- Maintain currency with international standards and provide advice on the materials, equipment, and resources required to meet appropriate museum standards for the preservation of the collection.
- Provide reports and information on preventive conservation programs.
Notes
- Tertiary qualifications in conservation or an equivalent combination of education/job-related experience highly desired.
- Physical ability to perform safe manual handling techniques and move a variety of items as required.
