Australia’s largest public museum organisation is seeking a Principal UX Product Designer to lead its data-driven UX practice and re-imagine the visual design system for Museums Victoria’s websites.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The primary responsibility of the Principal UX Product Designer will be to re-imagine the design system for Museums Victoria’s websites by conducting user research and iterating designs. They will champion the user needs throughout our Web Transformation project.

Key duties include:

  1. Lead user design research for Museums Victoria websites including Immigration Museum, Scienceworks and Melbourne Museum. This will include the whole user interaction lifecycle by understanding their needs and journeys.
  2. Develop a design system to meet user needs, improve user experience, and optimise online revenue while working closely with the product owner and website stakeholders. This includes establishing and championing best practice UX and design principles based on broad industry knowledge.
  3. Develop prototypes, user workflows and journeys, wireframes, mock-ups, technical briefs and detailed design assets to build user interfaces.
  4. Manage the digital design and UX within the Web Transformation project including mentoring Digital Platforms staff and sharing knowledge to increase UX practices within Museums Victoria.
  5. Work as part of an Agile project team, actively supporting its successful collaboration with stakeholders to test and iterate design solutions to transform Museums Victoria’s websites.
  6. Support the development of a distributed online content publishing model throughout the organisation by developing easily useable templates for the most commonly published content.
  7. Collaborate closely with Design and Marketing teams to develop a consistent design approach primarily for web and also harmonises with onsite experiences.

The successful applicant will meet the following selection criteria:

  1. Extensive experience in conducting UX research utilising best practice tools and technologies to develop and iterate practical UI design solutions. Experience developing design standards for an organisation are an advantage.
  2. Demonstrated experience creating design solutions and systems for larger organisations including creating prototypes, mock ups, technical briefs and design assets.
  3. Knowledge of front-end web coding tools, techniques and frameworks. Ability to work with developers to test, prototype and deliver web templates and designs that work across devices.
  4. Strong written and oral communication skills with experience in managing staff collaborating with stakeholders, mentoring staff and championing a design system within an organisation.
  5. Evidence of a leadership style that focuses on organisational change and professional development of staff that fosters a positive, collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  6. Experience working in Agile including practising sprints and presenting showcases with diverse project teams.
  7. The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost).

The successful applicant will have a minimum of 3-5 years experience leading UX design.
