Program Manager, Marketing Communications and Public Affairs

The job opportunity

The Museum has an exciting opportunity for a professional to join the Museum to lead our talented Marketing Communications and Public Affairs business unit.  The role is responsible for driving the development and implementation of a strategic marketing and communications framework that supports publicity campaigns that align with and promote the Museum’s suite of programs, exhibitions, ambition and priorities to our audiences.

The position works closely with Executive on strategic communications and issues management to address complex matters related to the Museum’s business, as they arise.

The role actively oversees Museum public affairs, promoting the Museum to a wide international, national and local audience, developing media strategies and formulating and implementing the media liaison program.  A significant part of this position is to provide timely and sound advice on public relations implications of organisational policy and program decisions.

What will the successful candidate bring to the role?

The successful candidate for this position will have proven experience managing a small creative team.  Ideally, the candidate will have extensive experience in media relations and/or marketing at a strategic level. Experience as a journalist highly valued. Capacity to work in a dynamic working environment is essential.  The candidate must be able to use judgement, think strategically and have a proven track record of delivering quality outcomes.

Selection criteria

Applicants must respond to each of the following selection criteria and include contact details for two referees in their application.

  1. Demonstrated high-level experience in leading the development of successful, dynamic and integrated marketing and communications functions and campaigns across traditional, social and emerging media.
  2. Extensive experience in managing media and strategic public affairs functions and associated activities.
  3. Demonstrated experience in issues management and developing high-level strategic communications strategies to address complex matters.
  4. Demonstrated capacity to be innovative and shape creative thinking.
  5. Proven high-level analytical skills and ability to use sound judgement in decision making.
  6. Exceptional communication, negotiation and influencing skills and experience building partnerships and networks.
  7. Demonstrated experience leading and managing a small team.
  8. Proven ability to deliver results.
