The Museum has an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to lead the Collection Care and Management Business Unit. The role will provide strategic and administrative leadership to a large team engaged in the care and management of our collections. This includes conservation assessment and treatment of collections; collection control, movement and storage; international and domestic loans program; collection digitisation; and support of an active and an extensive gallery development and exhibition program.

The Program Manager of Collections Care and Management will assume a vital role in institutional initiatives and the achievement of strategic objectives. The program manager will ensure the Museum has a robust, strategic, collection management framework that focuses on governance, risk management, budgets for collection care, and collection care policies, processes and practices. This will be balanced with approaches and practices that are agile and support public-facing programs aimed at increasing audience access and interactions with the Museum collections.

The role will work collaboratively with colleagues and most closely with the Curatorial Centres Business Unit and the Collections Development and Information Business Unit, which have responsibility for collection development and related activities.

This role will work collaboratively with other internal stakeholders to drive the Museum’s strategic storage requirements. This will involve conceptualising the Museum’s long term storage plans and may involve collaboration across the cultural sector with a view to developing a whole of government approach.
