Duties

The National Museum of Australia (NMA) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, high achieving professional to join the Public Engagement division to lead the Digital and Content Services business unit. The unit includes management of the Museum’s website, creation and maintenance of all digital outputs, provision of media services, provision of audio visual and production services, and responsibility for the Museum’s publishing arm, NMA Press.

This position is responsible for overseeing and establishing an aspirational digital and content framework that will increase our visitor’s affinity with Museum programs and activities. This will lead to a sustainable increase in virtual visitation and offer enhanced engagement opportunities with the Museum’s global audience; aimed at strengthening visitors’ understanding and enjoyment of Australia’s remarkable achievements.

Over the next decade, the Museum is poised for significant growth and development of its Acton, Canberra site. The Museum Masterplan builds upon the institution’s successes and achievements to date, by growing and developing its offerings, connecting onsite and online experiences as never before. At its heart, the Masterplan will transform and double the size of the Museum greatly extending the range of visitor experiences by 2030. These will meld real and virtual experiences so that both realms are seamlessly integrated giving the public the opportunity to participate in, or create, their own Museum experiences.

Fundamental to this role is the need for the Museum to grow and mature its digital culture, its digital presence onsite and online, positioning it at the centre of the growing knowledge economy. The role will focus on embracing technology to extend our reach, improving accessibility to Museum programs while underpinning the Museum’s brand as a leading worldwide cultural institution.
