Project Collection Technician, Published and Pictorial Collections
Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira is looking for a Project Collection Technician to join the Documentary Heritage team on a full-time, and fixed-term basis for 12 months. There are two primary focuses of this role; the provision of research support and physical collection care, documentation and access for the Pictorial collections; and the completion of an audit and assessment of unprocessed and uncatalogued donations of published material for the purposes of retention, accession, cataloging or disposal.
A genuine interest and some knowledge of Pictorial (particularly photographic) materials and their documentation and care are a distinct advantage. Experience in using online research tools is essential, along with a practical ability in safe handling of boxes of books and use of ladders.
This role sits at the heart of many of the Museum’s aspirations as expressed in Future Museum and helps deliver on Auckland War Memorial Museum’s guiding principle of kaitiakitanga – providing care for the collections and stories entrusted to us.
To be successful in this role, you will offer:
- A tertiary-level degree in a discipline relevant to the Museum’s and Documentary Heritage division’s activities
- Demonstrated research experience
- Familiarity with library and museum collection management databases and at least an intermediate level of MS Excel
- An excellent appreciation of and interest in the Documentary Heritage collections of the Museum
- A keen interest in natural sciences and/or photographic material is a distinct advantage
- Sound knowledge or interest in New Zealand and Pacific history
- Self-motivation, proven problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and effective time management skills
- The demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with team members and other employees at all levels across an organisation
