Tāmaki Paenga Hira: Tui tui hono tangata, whenua me te moana.

Auckland War Memorial Museum: Connecting through sharing stories of people, lands and seas.

Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its world-class collections and the employees and volunteers who tell the Museum’s stories.

We encourage candidates to share their talents at this unique workplace, which embraces diversity and both acknowledges and nurtures our bicultural capabilities, as demonstrated in our Teu le Vā and He Korahi Māori strategies.

We are seeking a versatile and motivated Project Coordinator to assist with the delivery of a series of community engagement events associated with Auckland Museum’s – Tuia – Encounters 250 commemorative activities. You will be focused on the development and delivery of a series of ‘BioBlitz’ community engagement field-based days in Northland and the Coromandel. The events will focus on biodiversity and archaeology, and you will collaborate with a variety of scientific experts, Iwi and research partners, volunteers, schools and other community groups. The goal of the events is in part educational, historical and scientific, and is also a celebration of the biodiversity and heritage within a given community. An important aspect will be the drawing of connections between current environments and Auckland Museum collections associated with the Cook 1769 landing sites, or the Banks and Solander collections. Please be aware this is a part-time and fixed-term position, requiring a variety of weekly hours, so flexibility with availability is essential.

To be successful in this part-time role, you will offer:

  • A tertiary degree relevant to the museum’s Natural Sciences or archaeological collections and activities
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating a complex, multi-disciplinary project on time and within budget
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, dealing with individuals in a respectful, supportive and open manner
  • Ability to communicate confidently, clearly and articulately
  • Ability to manage resources in an environment of shifting priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills

Closing date: Sunday, 23 June 2019 at 5.00pm

You must be eligible to currently work in New Zealand to apply for this part-time position.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to be part of a fabulous New Zealand organisation committed to telling our national and Auckland stories and reflecting our unique place in the South Pacific.
