Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to the outstanding care and management of its extensive collections, and to the amazing team who tell the Museum’s stories.

Auckland Museum has launched Future Museum, a high-level strategic and capital investment plan that is guiding a process of transformational change. This change spans all the dimensions that the museum works in – onsite, offsite and online – and will ensure the museum can achieve its vision and mission over the next 20 years.

The Collection Cataloguing Project is focused on the care of the collection through improving documentation of and knowledge about the objects we hold. Auckland Museum is recruiting now for a team of highly motivated enthusiastic museum professionals to join us in this project at an exciting time of redevelopment and renewal. These fixed term roles will be part of the core team readying our collection for the future, working alongside colleagues from Natural Sciences and Documentary Heritage.

The Collection Cataloguing Project is looking for:

  • Project Leader /Senior Collection Technician, Human History

To be successful in this role, you will have as a minimum:

  • Relevant museum experience including object handling, cataloguing and packing
  • Subject knowledge relevant to the Museum’s Human History collections, in particular History, Archaeology and/or Applied Arts
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills and a strong work ethic
  • A relevant degree
  • Knowledge of Tikanga Māori, especially relating to collections
  • Experience managing staff
  • Project management experience

The role is fixed term – ending in April 2020.
