Auckland War Memorial Museum: Connecting through sharing stories of people, lands and seas

Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its world-class collections and the employees and volunteers who tell the Museum’s stories. We are Auckland’s home of commemoration as well as the country’s oldest research institution and a major tourist destination.

Auckland Museum is seeking an experienced Project Manager with strong building design management or construction project management expertise to take up the recently established role of Project Manager – Construction. This fixed-term position will be responsible for the project management, coordination, delivery and reporting of a number of major building and associated infrastructure works currently planned for the Auckland War Memorial Museum. If you are keen to make a valued contribution to the works, both inside and outside the Museum to improve access, circulation, and building infrastructure and are available until late September 2020, then we are keen to hear from you.

To be successful in this role, you will offer:

  • Minimum seven years’ experience in project management or building design management (building and construction related experience is highly desirable)
  • Familiar with NZ standard construction contracts (NZS 3910) as well as new construction procurement routes (Design Build, Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), and Public Private Partnerships (PPP))
  • Demonstrate experience in the Auckland commercial construction market and regulatory requirements including Auckland Council code of compliance certification
  • Proven record of managing teams in a project-based environment
  • Formal project management or design management training is desirable (eg Prince2)
  • Demonstrable experience with financial systems, processes and reporting in a project management environment
  • Experience of working with structured project management methodology
  • Procurement and contract management
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programmes, (including Excel, Word and Project) and Adobe Acrobat Professional
  • Thorough knowledge of various building infrastructure matters including: fire, HVAC, hydraulics, electrical and mechanical systems
  • Ability to identify practical solutions to building and construction issues that arise through a project, and resolve them in a timely and cost-effective fashion
  • Proven open friendly and effective communication skills with all levels of an organisation
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders, dealing with individuals in a respectful and supportive manner
  • Must hold a current and full driver’s licence
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings, holidays and/or weekends as required
