Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its world-class collections, developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events, educational programmes and the permanent and volunteer staff who tell the Museum’s stories.  Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Public Experience Manager to lead a team in the development of our annual community and public events programme. You will have proven experience in creating public engagements firmly based on a proven background of understanding your audience. A creative mind with sound business acumen and a passion for connecting to our communities is a must. This role suits a team player who thrives on complex environments, delivering to a range of strategic placed outcomes.

The key responsibilities:

  • Working with the Head of Learning and Public Programmes to manage the development of a leading public programme that strengthens the connection between the Museum, it’s taonga and our communities and visitors and meeting visitation and revenue targets and delivering on our 5-year strategic goals.
  • Leading our Te Taunga Community Hub. Championing the voice of our communities and sharing their stories with Tāmaki Makaurau.
  • Developing public experiences to support our touring exhibitions programme.
  • Driving engagement, increasing awareness and delivering on revenue and visitation targets.
  • Developing high functioning, diverse teams and leading by example.
  • Embed He Korahi Māori and Teu le Vā into our public programmes  including actively exploring collaboration opportunities with our Māori and Pacific communities.
  • Ensuring our programming remains relevant and reflective of the Museum and our audiences. 

Desired Skills and Experience

You will bring with you:

  • Public Programme/Engagement experience in the GLAM sector or related industries.
  • A minimum of five years senior management experience in the creative or GLAM sector, preferably with Museum experience.
  • Proven forecasting and budget management experience (3 years minimum)
  • Proven experience of effectively managing internal and external stakeholder relationships at multiple levels of an organisation, with the ability to influence and persuade through personal credibility, integrity and professionalism.
  • Working knowledge and broad familiarity with current trends and events in popular culture and museums
  • Strong knowledge of MS suite of services and software applications
  • Community orientated
  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays and weekends
