These newly established roles are an exciting opportunity to join Te Papa’s Learning Team in building and shaping our public programmes strategy and core programmes at an exciting time in the organisation as we embark on a period of growth and the renewal of our exhibitions and programmes.
As a Public Programmes Specialist you will draw on Te Papa’s collections, exhibitions and resources to activate audience learning experiences and audience participation. You will work collaboratively with the Learning Team, with other internal teams and with external partners, communities and audiences to develop a range of public programmes with broad reach and impact.
We are seeking motivated and innovative public programmers with the experience and skills to develop, promote and deliver meaningful programmes that are aligned to Te Papa’s strategic priorities and enable lifelong learning and participation for our diverse audiences.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience in the successful development and delivery of innovative public programmes in an exhibitions or informal learning context
- A positive, collaborative approach with strong skills in creative thinking and problem solving
- Strong organisational skills to develop and deliver high-quality programmes
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build positive relationships; ideally with strong existing networks in at least one community/subject area relevant to Te Papa’s collections and/or audiences
- A strong understanding of learning theory, visitor psychology and/or human centred design principles
- Competence in or willingness to learn Te Reo Maori and tikanga Maori and an understanding of biculturalism
- A relevant tertiary qualification and or subject knowledge in a subject area relevant to Te Papa’s collections and/or audiences
- Experience in using digital products to extend programming would be a significant advantage.
Full time, permanent role. Some flexibility in working outside core hours to deliver public programmes will be required.
