Calling creative programme managers

Te Papa’s public programme is in an exciting period of growth and we’re looking for a creative thinker who will bring operational management skills to our team. This role is responsible for managing the public programme’s operations and planning, as well as developing and delivering targeted new public programmes to engage a wide range of audiences with Te Papa’s collections, exhibitions and resources.

In this role you will work closely with the Head of Public Programming to implement a dynamic public programming strategy (currently in development). You will bring a strengths-based and analytical approach to growing and constantly improving Te Papa’s public programming offer, building on our innovative and collaborative kaupapa. You will champion getting things done in a smart, values-driven manner to ensure that Te Papa’s public programmes are high-quality, participatory and impactful.

You will support and mentor a small, high-performing team of public programmes specialists and a coordinator who are responsible for designing and facilitating a wide range of meaningful public programmes across Te Papa’s collections and exhibitions.

You will progress Te Papa’s bi-cultural kaupapa and commitment to life-long learning. You will expand our networks and extend our national reach and accessibility. You will enjoy working cross-functionally with a diverse range of talented museum staff (e.g. curators, visitor services, digital, marketing and comms) on a regular basis.

About you:

You will bring a blend of operational management and creative development to our team; you’ll have advanced operational management experience and strong conceptual development skills.

You’ll bring significant experience (minimum five years) in the successful management of public programmes, events, performance and/or festivals in a relevant context. You have advanced project management, planning, reporting and planning skills, and you are comfortable balancing multiple priorities. You love a creative conceptual challenge, and you also have a strong track record in developing powerful public engagement experiences. You enjoy taking responsibility for big-picture thinking, while keeping an eye on the detail and consistently ensuring high-quality across a range of products.

You bring an analytical approach to enabling teams to do their best. You are an open, supportive, and collaborative colleague who can enable high-performing teams to meet established objectives and develop innovative practices. You demonstrate a growth mind-set and you’re calm under pressure.

You’re skilled at stakeholder management and developing partnerships and you will positively represent Te Papa. You are an advocate for public engagement and the GLAM sector, who seeks to make a difference to the communities you work with.
