The Museum has an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional to join the Digital and Content Services section as the Publishing Assistant.
Under the guidance of the Publishing Manager, the Publishing Assistant provides editorial support and publication coordination for the Museum’s publishing activities.
The Publishing Assistant develops, monitors and maintains production schedules and project plans for the Museum’s publishing activities, including the Museum magazine, scholarly books, exhibition catalogues and exhibition content.
The incumbent will provide editorial support, including proofreading and checking of exhibition text, graphics and marketing materials, and researching and sourcing images for publication.
The Publishing Assistant also works across the Museum’s finance and records management systems processing payments, monitoring production budgets and maintaining publication files.
What the successful candidate will bring to the role:
- The ideal person will have worked in a similar role or have qualifications in professional writing and editing, journalism or marketing and have an understanding of the publishing industry in a museum context i.e. exhibition catalogues, fine art books and magazines.
- The successful candidate will have eye for detail, excellent project coordination and time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks simultaneously. They will be a great communicator and be able to negotiate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- To effectively support the Publishing team, the successful candidate must have exceptional communication skills and an excellent understanding of the English language.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is essential and knowledge of Adobe InDesign and project management applications is desirable.
