From handmade dresses to a crocheted scone holder, Marjorie Bligh’s incredible creations will be on display in Launceston for the next 12 months.

The exhibition – Marjorie Bligh: Domestic Goddess – officially opened at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery on April 13, with the Inveresk site displaying some very hard-to-find books Bligh authored, history about her life and beautiful handmade creations.

Bligh’s son Ross Blackwell said the exhibition was a very accurate depiction of life with his mother.

“It brings back many vivid and intimate memories of life with Marjorie,” he said.

Bligh was known for her domestic prowess, community service, and advice columns. Bligh died in 2013, aged 96.

Over the past year, Jon Addison and Amy Bartlett co-curated the exhibition with the help of Mr Blackwell.
“We don’t actually have the full collection on display, so there will probably be changeovers after six months to bring something new for people to come visit,” Ms Bartlett said.

“We have Marjorie’s copies of her books, including the At Home with Marjorie Blackwell book which is very hard to source.

“It’s really interesting because you can see how she’s used that as her first publication but also as a scrapbook and she’s written notes and cut out bits of newspapers and stuck it in, and that’s informed her next book.”
