Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events and educational programmes. We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Curator of Entomology for a fixed period of two years. The primary purpose of the role is to curate and document a large collection of exotic butterflies and moths. The Assistant Curator will also provide curatorial support across all other areas of the Entomology collection: enrich the collection’s content, promote collection access, answer public enquiries, contribute to the development of exhibitions, public programs and digital content, and undertake and support research activities.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Postgraduate tertiary qualification in a field relevant to entomology or biological science
- Expertise in Linnaean classification, and knowledge of the principles of entomological systematics and taxonomy
- A minimum of two years working experience and familiarity with preparation and handling entomological collections and specimens
- Experience with collection management databases, Vernon CMS preferred
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and in cross-functional teams
- Excellent interpersonal skills and effective time management skills
