Duties
- Undertake the storage, transport, packing and tracking of both collection items and items on loan to TMAG, utilising established collection handling, manual handling and preventative conservation principles, procedures and policies. This involves driving the TMAG truck between sites within Hobart on a daily basis as well as the use of other relevant equipment.
- In consultation with Conservators carry out the construction of crates, stillages, storage systems, and crate fit-out for collection items.
- Ensure the safe housing of collections and monitor and maintain order of collection stores.
- Ensure the scheduled maintenance of equipment (e.g. forklift, truck, other manual handling equipment).
- Establish effective working relationships with staff across the institution, including Registration, Conservation, Curators, Exhibitions and Facilities in relation to the key responsibilities of this role.
- Under direct supervision, assist Conservators undertake large scale collection storage improvement projects.
- Undertake registration documentation tasks connected with TMAG collections, and assist with installation of exhibitions and displays as required.
- Undertake airport and courier duties for collection and loan items travelling throughout Tasmania and interstate.
Essential Requirements
Evidence of the following must be provided prior to appointment to this role:
- Current driver’s license with the ability to operate manual vehicles.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience in a museum or art gallery environment
- Forklift licence, or willingness to obtain.
