Auckland Museum is a much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its extensive collections and the permanent and volunteer staff who tell the Museum’s stories.

The Research Manager will be responsible for the operational support and promotion of research activities both within and outside of the museum. This will include liaison with Crown research institutes, other museums, tertiary education institutions and research stakeholders to enhance the museum’s research capabilities and broaden opportunities for collaborative research. The Research Manager will also work closely with senior museum personnel and Collection and Research directorate researchers to ensure successful delivery of outcomes in line with the museum’s research strategy.

To be successful in this role, you will offer:

  • Previous experience as a researcher or research manager, with research development and support responsibilities from a dynamic and diverse investigative environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of the range or research activities undertaken by museum personnel, associates and collaborators
  • A tertiary qualification relevant to the museum’s collection and research activities
  • Demonstrated passion for promoting research activities to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience incorporating Maori and Moana Pacific values in a research context is desirable
  • Proven effective time management and multi-tasking skills, along with the ability to meet tight deadlines
