The Western Australian Museum is looking for a Research Scientist to specialise in next generation sequencing. The Research Scientist works within the Collections and Research Directorate.

The Western Australian Museum is positioning itself through scientific and academic excellence, public programs and relevant exhibitions to keep pace with the rapidly changing face of Western Australia. The Museum has made a major contribution to the collection, conservation and research of the State’s natural and social history, maritime heritage and the cultural heritage of Indigenous communities in Western Australia.

The Western Australian Museum is part of the Culture and Arts Portfolio, brought together by the Department of Culture and the Arts (DCA). DCA is the State Government agency responsible for the Government’s support of management and development of arts and culture in Western Australia.

Conditions

This is a full time, fixed term vacancy, for a period of 11 months and 3 weeks, with a possibility of extension. There will also be a Pool running for a period of 18 months from the initial appointment. Applicants deemed suitable will be placed into a pool from which full-time, fixed term appointments may be made.

A current (within 6 months) National Police Clearance Certificate will be required prior to commencement of employment, as per the Department of Culture and the Arts Police Record Screening Policy.

You must have a tertiary degree to be considered for this position. All overseas qualifications must have been assessed for Australian equivalency.

Location

This position is located at the Museum’s Research and Collections facility at 49 Kew Street, Welshpool.
