The role of the Safety & Security Officer is a highly responsible position protecting the museums’ artefacts, staff, visitors and building. By ensuring the safety of the museum and providing excellent service to Museum’s customers.

These are permanent and fulltime positions operating across a 24/7 rotating 3 shift roster, with 8.5 hour shifts.

To be successful in these roles, you will offer:

  • National Certificate in Security Levels II, III and IV or equivalent recognised qualification/s
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant compliance laws related to the Museum, safety and security and a strong desire to educate oneself in the safety and security profession.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a sole charge person and as part of a fast-paced team
  • Proven effective communication skills, both written, verbal and comprehension
  • Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think laterally and creatively with high levels of situational awareness, to make sound informed decisions on the run.
  • Ability to establish effective personal and working relationships and contribute in a skilled collaborative and cohesive team.
  • High level of commitment to the Museum, its staff and the needs of the public.
  • A reasonable level of fitness consistent with the physical demands of the job
  • An understanding and appreciation of the Treaty of Waitangi as it relates to the Museum environment
  • An approachable manner, with demonstrated appetite for positive work ethics, honesty, integrity, and reliability.
  • A full and current drivers licence.
