Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its world-class collections and the employees and volunteers who tell the Museum’s stories. We are Auckland’s home of commemoration as well as the country’s oldest research institution and a major tourist destination.

The role of the Safety & Security Officer is a highly responsible position protecting the museums’ people, property and asserts by ensuring the safety of the museum and providing excellent service to the Museum’s customers.

This is a permanent and full-time position, operating across a 24/7 rotating 3 shift roster, with 12 hour shifts.

To be successful in this full-time role you will offer:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant compliance laws related to the Museum, safety and security and a strong desire to continue educating oneself in the safety and security profession
  • Highly developed and demonstrable competence in the operation of access, security, surveillance and surveillance analytics systems and software, radio and phone operations including vocal clarity in spoken English for an effective and modern high-spec operations control room
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a sole charge person, as well as part of an effective and fast-paced team
  • Proven effective communication skills; written, verbal and comprehension
  • Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • While a National Certificate in Security or related qualification is beneficial, it is not essential for this position
  • Demonstrated ability to think laterally and creatively with high levels of situational awareness, to make sound informed decisions on the run
  • A reasonable level of fitness consistent with the physical demands of the job
  • An approachable manner, with demonstrated appetite for positive work ethics, honesty, integrity, and reliability
  • A full and current drivers licence

Candidates must currently hold New Zealand Citizenship or Residency to be considered for this permanent role.
